Meitu exceeds 7 billion monthly average images generated in 2021

Meitu has released its 2021 User Value Report, which combed available data to find the aesthetic preferences and trends of users from different age groups.


Meitu's average monthly generated images exceeds 7 billion 

Taking photos/videos and sharing them on social media has become a daily routine for many, making image beautification even more essential.


As of June 2021, Meitu's apps have been activated on more than 2.34 billion unique mobile devices worldwide, with a total of approximately 246 million monthly active users and an average monthly output of approximately 7 billion images.

Specifically, females make up the majority of Meitu's userbase. The data shows that 89% of Meitu users are female. With the improvement in consumption power and consumption trends in new first-tier cities, user demand for beauty has also grown significantly. Users from new first-tier cities account for 21% of Meitu's userbase.

Post-05 users love the dynamic beauty of videos

Meitu advocates beauty beyond age limits. Meitu has been updating its products to provide personalized beautification results for a wide variety of users.


According to its 2021 Meitu User Value Report, among Meitu users, post-85 users like to record their lives with photos; post-95 users prefer portrait retouching features; and post-05 users like to show dynamic beauty through videos.

For many users, taking pictures no longer means just "looking good", but also showing their personal style and interests.


According to the user report, the top 5 keywords of interest in the Meitu App community are retouching, food, plants/animals, video editing, and photography. It is obvious that for today's users, beauty means a lot more than just how they look.

Nearly 3 million users paid for Premium services

According to the data, Meitu's R&D expenditure in the first half of 2021 reached RMB 259.5 million. In addition, Meitu's core technological competitiveness has continued to increase. Benefiting from investment in R&D, Meitu has built unique advantages in product differentiation, which enables it to meet the needs of different user groups.


In 2021, BeautyCam introduced over 10 medical-grade beautification effects, with which users can edit their photos according to their preferences.

To further enhance user experience, Meitu launched its Premium services, which brings an abundance of options for tools, content, and features. For example, a Premium service user can access features such as teeth correction, facial reshaping, and teleprompter.


The report also showed that nearly 3 million users paid for Premium service. The top 3 favorite features of the Meitu App's Premium users were stickers, frames, and filters. The top 3 favorite features of BeautyCam's Premium users were filters, makeup sets, and wrinkle removal.

Turning creativity into reality 

With its technical accumulation over years, Meitu is manifesting prominent growth potential.


In 2021, Meitu Creator Platform (MCP) joined hands with the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Research Institute of Media & Interaction Design of the China Academy of Art, the School of Visual Communication and Media Design at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and the School of Design at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute to encourage the creation of digital art among students.


The report showed that nearly 1,000 creators registered on MCP, creating nealy 10,000 designs.

As the communicator and creator of aesthetics, young creators are providing steady energy for Meitu's aesthetic layout. Meitu has also been exploring more novelty experiences for users. In 2021, it cooperated with 130 celebrities and 90 popular IPs to bring many new gameplay scenarios to users.
