In 2008 when Meitu launched, compared with Photoshop, Meitu offered simple-to-use stunning retouching effects to users, which allowed Meitu to quickly rise to the top of various rankings and become a must-have app. Starting then, more and more people began to know about the Meitu App.

In 2013, the Meitu App (Mobile version) launched Auto Beautification. Auto mode was also added in portrait beautification, allowing users to become more beautiful with just one tap.

In 2014, the Meitu App (Mobile version) launched its Height function, allowing users to easily get a perfect body ratio.

April 2016, the Meitu App launched its Filter function, which was the first app in China that allowed users to take photos with filters already applied. It launched a Firmness function in June, professionally removing wrinkles by combination of skin area recognition and removal algorithms.

April 2017, the Cutie function was launched. With real-time face tracking and a beautification algorithm, users could obtain the final result after capturing with no editing needed. The Reshape function was launched in May, allowing users to adjust facial features instantly and obtain a more natural effect.

February 2018, the Meitu App added its Makeup function in the portrait retouching section, which captures every detail of facial features, helping users experience natural looking effects under different lighting environments. 3D Reshape was launched in October to allow users to be able to show their beauty at any shooting angle using 3D facial detection.

June 2019, the Animate function was launched. Users could change their photos into animated images using instance segmentation and background area filling technologies.

The Meitu App has continuously updated its beauty related AI technologies and achievements over the following years. To meet the younger generation’s new requirements for natural makeup looks and body shapes, the Meitu App launched a series of powerful functions including Head Size, Highlight, Skin Tone, and Body Shape.

With fine processing technology,the Meitu App’s 5D highlight makeup look can provide an even more natural and 3D look. Our DL3D technology features prominent optimization in fidelity, blend and glossiness. In addition, MTlab also recently introduced Physically Based Rendering (PBR) technology for the first time in our makeup effects by continuously training makeup effects on different textures, achieving film-grade effects.
