The "2023 Taobao Tmall Open Ecosystem AIGC Challenge" came to a satisfying conclusion, with Meitu X-Design and its profound AIGC strength and experience taking first in both the "FMCG Cosmetics" and "Home Decoration and Appliances" categories.


Meitu emerging victorious in two categories from a fierce competition among 63 companies

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the e-commerce industry is undergoing profound changes. This Challenge was launched to tackle promotional image generation for e-commerce. This inaugural competition, themed AI-Generated Product Images, was divided into three categories including Apparel and Footwear, FMCG Cosmetics and Home Decoration and Appliances, attracting participation from 63 outstanding companies.

This challenge utilizes a "User Voting + Jury Review" approach to determine the winners in various categories. The Jury Review criteria included: product design, including its functionality, usability and applications; product performance, including generation rate, success rate, image quality and aesthetic evaluation; model performance, including the accuracy of the generated pictures regarding the actual product, product selling point information, etc.


Meitu X-Design's AI Product Image was recognized by the expert judges for its excellent and efficient AI capabilities, and took first in both "FMCG Cosmetics" and "Home Decoration and Appliances" categories. The wins are a milestone in Meitu’s shift toward productivity scenarios.


X-Design has helped more than 1.5 million merchants reduce costs and increase efficiency

In the fiercely competitive contest, Meitu X-Design's "AI Product Image" feature left a deep impression on everyone. The system could intelligently and delicately retouch a randomly taken image, which is further enriched by AI generated scenes for a more vivid and realistic touch.

Meitu X-Design is strategically positioned to serve the commercial design sector, with a focus on AI-generated creations for e-commerce and graphic design. The company has introduced relevant products like AI Product Image and AI Try-On for virtual product experiences, as well as AI Posters aimed at material design applications.


Since its release in April, more than 1.5 million users have been served. The products have reduced design time from 3 days to 10 seconds, generating a total of 18 million product images. Calculated at a design cost of RMB 100 per image, it has saved approximately RMB 1.8 billion, substantially boosting productivity in the e-commerce industry.


Relying on Meitu's AIGC technology, the "E-commerce Marketing Poster" and "Intelligent Cutout" functions also achieved fruitful results in 2023. The number of posters created in October has seen a six-fold increase compared to last year, reaching nearly 4 billion creations. Time has been reduced to 10 seconds per creation, satisfying the needs of various applications.


In terms of the "Intelligent Cutoutut" feature, before integrating the X-Design's API, a designer needed an average of 2 minutes to handle cutout work for a picture, and an entire design team could handle about 2,000 to 3,000 pictures a day. And after integrating, the time was reduced to less than 1 second, increasing efficiency 120x. With the support of AI technology, a team can process about 30,000 images per day, increasing efficiency more than 10x.


Industry experts are saying the organic combination of AI and e-commerce will bring explosive growth. Meitu X-Designer is actively enhancing the innovative convergence of AI with tangible industries. The goal is to implement more sophisticated AI technology in productivity scenarios to reduce costs and increase efficiency, thereby delivering greater commercial value to the industry.
