"The launch of the Meitu AI Open Platform is indicative of the company's broader effort to monetize its core areas of technological expertise that include computer vision, deep learning, and computer graphics. We aim to service the large and growing market of developers and enterprises who are seeking to upgrade their AI capabilities and fulfill their AI strategies," said Pengfei Wan, Director of Meitu Imaging & Vision Lab (MTlab), at the event in Hefei in China's eastern Anhui Province. MTlab is Meitu's core R&D department and is responsible for innovations in computer vision, machine learning, augmented reality, and cloud computing.
As a service platform, the Meitu AI Open Platform offers solutions for four major markets: enterprise services, cosmetic retailing, smart hardware, and Internet services. Meitu has successfully leveraged its years of industry experience and the R&D prowess of the MTlab with a proven track record in each of these four areas. Its previous partnerships include China Telecom, Sephora, Watsons, Baidu Wangpan (Baidu's Cloud-based service), Lenovo, Alibaba's Taobao, Tencent Animation & Comics, among many others.
Meitu AI Open Platform's services are offered in three forms: integration with SaaS services via Web API calls; the integration of Meitu's Mobile SDKs for access to multiple offline features and real-time algorithms; and customized business solutions according to the needs of enterprise clients.
For around ten years, MTlab's AI algorithms have been powering all Meitu's software and hardware products: their reliability has been validated by hundreds of millions of users, with daily calls numbering more than 100 million. In 2018, Meitu's MTlab secured top spots in two important events in the field of computer vision. It placed first in the European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV) mobile AI competition on perceptual image enhancement, as well as the lesion segmentation task at the International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC) Challenge.
