Meitu bids for Angelababy’s first charity work at the Teach for China 2016 Gala

The Teach for China 2016 Shanghai Gala was held on April 23rd. Liu Zepeng, president of Teach for China, Mr. and Mrs. Liang Jianzhang, founders of Ctrip, Mr. and Mrs. Jiang Nanchun, founder of Focus Media, and many other celebrities from all walks of life were present to support the event. A total of RMB 15.8 million was raised at the event, all of which will be used to support the "Teach for China" project and deliver more quality educational resources to areas in China with scarce educational resources. During the event, the painting Future, by the famous actress Angelababy, was auctioned off by Meitu for RMB 180,000.

The Teach for China project is a non-profit project that was founded in 2008 by the Lead Foundation. The project seeks to recruit young talents every year and sends them to teach in areas of China with scarce educational resources for two years, hoping to allow all children in China to access quality educational resources. Since its inception, Teach for China has cumulatively delivered approximately 750 program teachers to educationally disadvantaged areas, located in over 170 primary and secondary schools in Yunnan Province and Guangdong Province, impacting over 240,000 students and teaching over 830,000 lessons.

Future is Angelababy’s first painting and was specially made for the event. “I think sunrise and sunset are the best times of the day, with diverse colors mixed in the sky. The spaceship represents technology that can bring us such beautiful things, while the two flying birds are what I see as a symbol of energetic lives. This painting is my wish for great things to happen in those children’s lives,” said Angelababy. She called on everyone to take charitable action to help more children in rural areas who lack educational resources be able to explore more possibilities in life.

Meitu auctioned off Angelababy’s work and live-streamed the event on Meipai, its short video community, hoping to spread the seeds of charity through its social platform and attract more people to pay attention to rural education and public welfare.
